A peer-to-peer alternative to the three-tier stack
Letters, not servers.
Souspli replaces pages a server renders for you with signed letters people send each other and keep. One file, complete and verifiable, opened in a container that cannot phone home.
macOS, Windows, Linux · experimental alpha · unsigned builds · what works and what does not
A letter is one object
| Self-contained | No external fetches. Every image, font and byte of video travelled with it. |
|---|---|
| Readable | One file of HTML. Open technologies, plain markup, openable for as long as browsers exist. |
| Immutable | Identified by the hash of its content. A correction is a new letter, never a silent edit. |
| Attributable | Signed by its author. The signature covers the program, the content and every attachment. |
| Sealed in | Interactive, but with no exit: no network, no cookies, no way to report on its reader. |
What people build from it
An article you can keep. An invitation. An invoice that references the order it settles. A contract with four independent signatures, held in full by everyone who signed. A club with a roster — and a forum with threads, votes and moderation that nobody hosts, where two readers see the same posts in a different order because each ranks by the people they trust.
Two models, side by side
| Three-tier service | Souspli | |
|---|---|---|
| System of record | The operator's database | The copy in each party's hands |
| What you receive | A rendering, valid for one session | A file, valid indefinitely |
| Who sets the rules | The application tier, changeable at will | The terms written into the document |
| Same content for everyone | No, and not verifiably so | Yes, by content hash |
| Archiving | Screenshots and scrapers | Copy the file |
| Leakage from the client | Dozens of third-party connections | None; the container has no exit |

- Why
What is wrong with the web's shape, and what a letter fixes. Compared with Nostr, Mastodon, IPFS, PGP.
- Use
Write and send a letter, run a forum, sign a contract together, decide whom you trust.
- How
The format specification, the architecture, the threat model and the escape suite.
- Next
Private letters, key rotation — and zero-knowledge membership, secret ballots, identity proofs.
The exchange of documents between free people is how we operated for centuries — and we have more than enough bandwidth to go on doing it.
